Decoction of cinnamon stems plus rhubarb
Class: Release the Exterior
Subclass: Disperse Wind-Cold
Indications:
Greater Yang-stage disorders which were improperly treated with purgatives and consequently advanced to the greater Yin-stage.
Possible symptoms and diseases:
The symptoms are similar to A2-6 Gui Zhi Tang Yao, but the disease, this time, has developped and entered to the layer of Tai Yin
Digestive disorders
Fullness and intermittent pain in the abdomen, sometimes diarrhea, also due to erroneous purge
Fullness of the stomach
Oppression of the chest
Constipation
Preparation:
DECOCTION: 50 g/litre until 35 cl remain.
Administration/Recommended dosage:
DECOCTION: Take one cup (the patient should be bundle up to help induce sweating). If the first cup is successful, do not administer a second cup. If there is a little sweating, repeat once or twice, progressively reducing the interval between doses. If no result, pursue medication for 24 hours (1 cup/3 hours).
Contraindications:
Internal Heat.
Wind-Heat.
Alcoholism (according to the Shang Han Lun source text, the consumption of alcohol may generate vomiting).
Note:
During the treatment, the patient should avoid:
Raw or cold food
Spices and spicy flavors
Alcoholic beverages
