With their strong suction action, cupping jars bring what is deep (YIN) to the surface (YANG).
Their application increases blood circulation, raises skin temperature, stimulates metabolism in skin tissues, and enhances the functioning of sweat and sebaceous glands.
The earliest writings on the use of cupping jars can be found in the **Bo Shu** (an ancient silk book), discovered in a Han Dynasty tomb (202-221).
A Chinese proverb says: ""Acupuncture and cupping treat more than half of illnesses.""
Cupping therapy is suitable for treating the Five Pathogenic Factors, pain, Bi syndromes, diseases of the digestive, circulatory, and respiratory systems, certain skin conditions such as boils and eczema, wind attacks (facial paralysis), muscle weakness, high blood pressure (HBP), and common colds.
It is particularly effective when the pathogenic factor is still located in the body's superficial external energy layer (BIAN) and the WEI Qi (defense-protection).
In traditional Chinese medicine, cupping jars are applied to specific points corresponding to acupuncture points selected based on the disorder being treated, or they are moved along zones located on the energy meridians. They help circulate stagnant energy, blood, or bodily fluids.
Cupping therapy has positive effects on acne, psoriasis, and eczema, as well as on cellulite and all types of pain. Its use treats Bi syndromes of the Wind-Dampness type.
They can be applied to muscles or meridians to restore energetic balance.
Massage oil can be used as a complement, facilitating use on small areas or for the ""moving cupping"" technique.
The principles of cupping action are based on the concept of detoxification by ""opening the pores."" The cupping jar draws pathogenic factors to the surface. This technique is practiced worldwide. Hippocrates, Vulpes, and Galen mentioned it, as did the Egyptians and even our grandmothers, who used it for conditions like bronchitis.
