Gua Sha is a very common technique in TCM that involves scraping the skin with the massage tool called Gua Sha, to improve the circulation of Qi of Blood and organic fluids. Scraping also allows, in case of attack of Biao, wind/cold or wind/heat, to bring the perverse back to the surface.

Soft tissue microcirculation is stimulated with varied pressure movements, which increases blood flow.

The practitioner can apply massage oil to the skin to facilitate ""scrapping"".

Gua Sha is generally practiced on the back, buttocks, neck, arms, and legs. A gentle version of it can even be used on the face as a ""lifting"" technique to prevent wrinkles and fine lines.
