Description

100g Pack of Shiitake.

In China, it has been known since ancient times. Its trace dates back over 7000 years, during the Ming dynasty, when a famous physician cataloged it as the ""elixir of long life"".
It's called Dong Gu, meaning ""winter mushroom"", or Xiang Gu, which literally means ""fragrant mushroom"".
This mushroom is notably aromatic, giving an extraordinary taste when incorporated into soups.
In the West, it's known by its Japanese translation of Shiitake. In Shiitake, Shii is the tree where this mushroom grows, which is close to oak, and Take means ""mushroom growing on..."".
In French, it's known as the ""comestible du chêne"" botanical name.
It's a wood-rotting fungus. Its natural habitat is at heights between 2100 and 2400 meters in China.
It is the second most cultivated mushroom in the world, with China being the largest producer.
